Terms of Service

By using PhotoSpec you agree to what is written below.

What the service does

PhotoSpec crops a photo you provide to the dimensions published for a given document type and reports how the result compares with those requirements. The processing happens in your browser; we provide the software, not a photo service.

No guarantee of acceptance

We cannot guarantee that any authority will accept a photo produced here. Requirements change, offices apply them differently, and factors outside the crop — expression, lighting, glasses, head coverings, the paper a print was made on — affect the decision. Always compare the result with the official requirements of the office you are applying to before you submit.

The checklist reports what was measured. It is a measurement, not a decision by the authority, and it does not cover requirements that software cannot see.

Where the numbers come from

Measurements are taken from primary sources: ICAO Doc 9303 and official government or consulate pages. Each format page links to its source and shows the date it was last checked. Formats we have not verified by hand are marked as such on the page — treat those numbers as provisional and check them yourself.

Your photo, your rights

You keep every right to the images you process. Since nothing is uploaded, we acquire no licence, no copy and no claim over your photos.

You are responsible for having the right to use the photo you process — it must be of you, of someone who agreed to it, or of a child in your care — and for checking the output before you submit it.

Using the service responsibly

Do not use PhotoSpec to produce, alter or help produce forged or misleading documents, or for any other unlawful purpose. Do not attempt to disrupt the site, circumvent its limits, or scrape it at a volume that degrades it for other people. Linking to it and citing it are of course fine.

Free and paid features

Cropping, validation and preview are free. Paid features may be added later; if they are, their price and scope will be shown before payment, and what you can do for free today will not be moved behind payment retroactively.

Payments, when available, are collected by an external provider acting as merchant of record, and their terms apply to the transaction itself. A purchase is a one-off — there is no subscription and nothing renews. If a paid export fails or is unusable, write to us within 14 days and you get your money back; we will not ask you to send us the photo to prove it.

The site itself

The text, design, format configurations and code of this site belong to the project and may not be republished as a competing service. That restriction covers our work, never yours.

Availability

The service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, and may be changed, interrupted or discontinued at any time. It also depends on your browser: face detection needs a reasonably current device, and older browsers may not run the tool at all.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of this site — including a refused application, a missed deadline, travel costs, or fees paid to any authority. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you actually paid us. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Advertising and external links

The site may display advertising and links to official pages and other third-party sites. We do not control that content and are not responsible for it; a link is not an endorsement.

Changes to these terms

These terms will change as the service grows — most obviously when paid features go live. The date at the top of the page shows the current version, and using the site after a change means accepting it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the country in which the operator of the service is established. Nothing in them removes the mandatory consumer rights you have where you live, including the right to bring a claim before your local courts.
